1 Maccabees 11:47-49

⁴⁷ So the king called the Jews to his aid. They rallied around him and spread out through the city. They killed about one hundred thousand people that day. ⁴⁸ They set fire to the city, ravaged many goods, and saved the king. ⁴⁹ When the people saw that the Jews had gained control of the city as they pleased, their courage failed. They made a request of the king:
